TERRITORY AFFECTED

The dry corridor is a territorial extension that crosses almost all of Central America, from Chiapas to western Panama and western Costa Rica, passing through Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, and Nicaragua.

This area corresponds to the so-called dry tropical forest and irregular rains, which are one of its main characteristics, making it one of the areas of the planet most vulnerable to so-called climate change. This phenomenon and the geographical location generate extremes in this area such as drought and tropical storms, both with devastating effects on local communities.

Central America has more than 45 million inhabitants, of which almost half live in rural areas. 50% of its population is considered poor and of this 20% is in extreme poverty. An important part of this population is a producer of basic grains and half-lives in the dry corridor
